About Elizabeth
Elizabeth Haynes was first elected as St Dials Ward Councillor in May 2008. In May 2009 she became Leader of the largest Opposition Group (Independent Group) and continues to lead that successful group.
Elizabeth runs a small business in Cwmbran and employs local people.
Every TCBC Councillor is paid a salary of approx £13,000 a year. On top of that basic salary, the Labour Leader, Deputy Leader, Labour Cabinet posts, Labour & Plaid Cymru Scrutiny Chairs & 2 Independent Scrutiny & Committee Chairs, along with other Labour chairing posts, are all entitled to a "special responsibility allowance". This ranges from aprox £9,000 to £32,000 a year on top of the basic salary. ALL people who hold those posts accept their special responsibility allowance.
St Dials Ward Councillor, Elizabeth Haynes, holds the position of "Leader of the largest Opposition group" which has an allowance attached to it of approx £9,000 a year. Elizabeth has refused to accept this allowance since taking up the post in May 2009, saving TCBC over £26,000 in the 3 years she will have been in post (up to May 2012)
PLEASE NOTE - recent changes have been made to what these allowances are called. They are now called a SALARY. Those councillors who are also appointed as Cabinet, Chairs, etc (and were entitled to what was called SPECIAL RESPONSIBILITY ALLOWANCE) are now in receipt of payments called SENIOR SALARY. The money has not really changed.
Councillors are also entitled to claim Travel costs, meals, phone and broadband costs. Elizabeth Haynes has not claimed a penny since being elected.
